Illuminate the exterior of your business after hours
• Have locks installed on the front and rear doors
made out of solid wood or steel
• Install bolts at the top and bottom of the rear
door
• Make it difficult for a thief to enter your business
place from the place next door
• Make certain all the windows are secured
• Do you have a safe? If "Yes", will it
take two persons to unlock the safe?
• Secure your safe underneath the floor or bolt it
to the floor
• Install two locks on the front door
• Install security cameras with the recorders in a
safe place
• Be sure the till emptied and left open when you
leave
• Employ an alarm system that is connected to a Security
Company
• Check the immediate area of the bank before making
deposits
• Insist on having at least two persons make bank
deposits
• Discuss the security of your building with the police
• Furnished the police with the names and telephone
numbers of key holders for your business place (In case
of an emergency, the police may need to contact one of them)
• Install a security button to alert someone if persons
in your business place are being robbed
• Take note of suspicious looking persons who enter
or hang around your business place

Install outside lights on the corners of your house at least
nine feet off the ground and keep them in working order
• Equip front door with dead lock but use bolts at
the rear door, top and bottom
• All sliding glass doors should be fitted with secondary
lock
• Install a casement window lock on the inside of
all accessible casement windows. Fit a sash window lock
on the inside of all accessible sash windows. It should
be fitted not more than 5” up on the inside of the
upper frame
• Fit an expanding metal grille in the window frame
of louvered windows. For louvered door measure the exisitng
flyscreen and replace with a metal mesh grille of the same
size
• Lock all windows and doors when going out
• Secure shed and garage in the same way you secure
your residence. Don’t leave tools unsecured
• If there is a connecting door between the house
and the garage, ensure that it is a solid door with a dead
lock
• Keep curtains closed at all times so that a burglar
cannot see where you are in the house
• When you are going out for the evening, leave a
light on
• Make sure that household items and valuables are
fully insured. Keep a record of valuables. Take photographs
of expensive items and record serial numbers
• Put visible identification mark on valuables
• Do not leave keys in hiding places around the door
area
• Once your home is physically secure, consider buying
or renting an alarm system. Both local and monitored systems
are available. Ask about incorporating fire alarms.
Vehicles:
Do not leave items visible in your vehicle. If
items can be seen from the outside, you increase the risk
of having vehicle unlawfully entered and property stolen.
Be aware – culprits may shine a flashlight through
your tinted widows to identify valuables before breaking
into your vehicle. Never leave your vehicle unattended with
the engine running.
