How to track a Hurricane
Hurricanes can be tracked using lines of latitude and longitude. These are imaginary lines that run along the earth’s surface. Latitude measures the distance north or south of the equator. Longitude measures the distance east or west from Greenwich, England, which is at 0 degrees longitude. They are labeled along the right edge (Latiude) and bottom edge (Longitude) of the tracking chart. “Co-ordinates” i.e. a specific point on a map or grid are identified by combining longitude and latitude. The intersection of a given line of longitude and line of latitude serves to pin-point the location of a hurricane.
