San Salvador
(63 sq. miles / population 1,028 - incl. Rum Cay)

Though there is debate on this piece of history, San Salvador is widely regarded as the place Christopher Columbus first made landfall in the New World. Here you will find some of the best preserved plantation sites in The Bahamas. Scientists from around the globe also stop in to the Bahamian Field Station for biological and geological research.
