Sports
play a major role in the life and culture of Bahamians.
Competitive and leisure sports, plus individual and team
sports at the amateur and profession level, are enjoyed
by Bahamians and visitors at a variety of venues.
Most
of The Bahamas large sports facilities are located at the
government-owned Queen Elizabeth II Sports Centre in Nassau’s
Oakes Field area. These include the Thomas A. Robinson Track
and Field Stadium, Andre Rodgers Baseball Stadium, Churchill
Tener-Knowles National Softball Stadium and Little League
and Pony League Baseball Diamonds. Recent additions are
the Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium, the National Tennis Centre,
the Betty Kelly Kenning National Swim Complex and the Bahamas
Olympic Association headquarters.
The
Bahamas Handbook lists many more sporting venues and over
50 sports organizations that are listed with the Ministry
of Youth, Sports and Culture. Visitors interested in taking
in The Bahamas sporting scene while on island can contact
the Ministry at 322-6250.
